Birthday in New York - part 2

The crafty part of the trip involved many trips to sewing, ribbon and trim places like M&J Trimming (often featured on the Martha Stewart website or in her magazines), Joyce Buttons and Trims (great for rhinestones which I need for the Mombi dress), and.... MOOD! I had to wait until Monday morning to go there as planning wouldnt allow me to go there any other day and they are closed on Sundays.

So many ribbons and items to make hair accessories in M&J Trimming.... :)


Check it out, I went to Mood!!! It was on the 3rd floor so I couldnt get a photo OUTSIDE the store... BUT:

I also bought a bag there (the one they have on Project Runway) but I dont have a photo of it yet. I even left the store saying 'Thank you, Mood' LOL. I just couldnt resist ;)

Then I walked back to the hotel via Fashion Avenue:

In the end it turned out quite crafty after all :)

So now that I have finished blogging everything, it is late and I havent worked on the Mombi dress at all tonight. Only three more patches to sew on and then the ribbons, the extra sequined pieces, and make the inside bit and then at least the dress is done... better get some sleep now then :)

Fabulising February - Men's Shirt Dress

Hi everyone! Fabulising February is nearly over and this is the last project I have managed to complete.Tomorrow I'll post a short recap showing all the finished projects. Wanting to go out with a bang, I tackled a men's shirt that the bf bought online many years ago and forgot to return it so I wanted to make something nice out of it. Seems a waste to be throwing away a brand new shirt! Granted, it was white and while probably cotton it was very thick and stiff material. So I dyed it purple. Of course. Once it was purple, I then had to try and do something with it. Easier said than done! I finally found a cute idea for a dress in blogland (didn't save the link though) and I really wanted to try that. But the instructions were super tricky so in the mending pile it went. This is the shirt. Much too large even for the bf but purple at least ;) And a bit wrinkled for being in the bag for a very long time. But with only a little time left in my Fabulising February

My Neighbor Totoro Project #2: Catbus

Hello again! So last time I showed you how I made Totoro. I ended up making yet another doll / pillow from the same movie for the same friend! I think this was a present for a combination of life events, and I knew she would love this. This time, I made Catbus! (if you don't know what Catbus looks like, please Google it as there are so many references out there! Or better yet: watch the movie, you will love it!) Again, I went shopping for fabric... at least this time I knew what I needed, the wool was just perfect, I just had to find the right colours. Catbus has various shades of brown and a bright yellow. The brown was easy but I couldn't find yellow anywhere... In the end I opted for yellow felt which worked as well. Not the tiny squares of craft felt, no the proper felt on a roll. It seemed stronger, and the colour was perfect. Sadly this time there was no tutorial, but I did find a pillow on ebay that served as inspiration for this project. Ok, I mostly copied it... M
